Most of the Filipinos nowadays are fun of reading Manga. Even professionals, students, rich kids or not so rich pipz are also fun on reading Manga.
Manga is a Japanese term that means “comics”, “cartoon” or literally “whimsical sketches” according to Wikipedia. It is also the Japanese version of United States’ Manga. In which, it is really influenced by American Occupation in Japan. The difference between Manga and Comics is that Manga only have the color Black and White unlike U.S. comics with colored drawing. And also, according to Holland Carter of the New York Times who wrote about Manga formula, he said that “it is a clearly outlined forms, toothsome colors and blandly smiling images of prepubescent innocence, sometimes laced with undercurrents of sex and violence… At their most inventive, they’re like Disney on amphetamines, additively pleasurable and weirdly, unpredictably perverse.”
Did you know that Manga for male readers can be characterized in different ways? Manga that is intended to boys up to 18 years old is called Shonen Manga. While Manga for young men 18 to 30 years old is called Seinen Manga. Manga that is intended to adults is called Seijin Manga. Although these three have different names, still, all of them have the same features.
Did someone ask you, what is/are the benefit/s on reading Manga? None, but according to a forum, reading Manga could increase your vocabulary on Nihonggo (Japanese Language). Some said that it could increase your creativity and patience on reading. On my opinion, reading Manga like Nurarihyon no Mago helps me on how to manage subordinates or team members as well as my leadership skills. For the benefits of majority, I am recommending you to read Naruto, because on this Manga, it shows the chain reaction of having revenge. It wanted to show us how we should treat others, that revenge is the source of war.
To those who are Manga addicts, there is a Manga Museum in Kyoto, Japan and it called Kyoto International Manga Museum. There are more or less 200,000 pieces of Manga on that museum. You could also visit the pioneer manga research school in Japan, Kyoto Seika University. This university is almost 30 years of engaging in this field. Kyoto is known to the world for it is the historic and cultural center of Japan and Manga.
Creating and formulating a Manga is not that an easy task. It needs collaboration between two important people, the Editor and the Artist. The first stage is where, the artist talks with the editor and the artist will create a draft called “name”. And when the Editor loves it, the artist will now start to create the manga that he/she proposed. The artist will not worry because the editor will be his/her best friend, promoter, and the anxiety absorber of the artist and making sure that work proceeds smoothly.
Manga is now a symbol of Manga. When you heard the word “manga” people said automatically that it’s “Japan”. Even though, Japan is a modernized country, still, they didn’t forget their culture and still using the old way of drawing which is using a paper. Manga is a culture in Japan and we appreciate and adapting this culture.
