Make a Password a truly Password

I know that you’re all familiar with the word ‘Password’. Some of us viewed this as a very important thing to keep our secrets secret or things that shouldn’t be exposed. And some of us don’t care or even easily forget their passwords. According to Wikipedia, a password is a secret word or string of characters that is used for authentication, to prove identity or gain access to a resource (example: an access code is a type of password). The password should be kept secret from those not allowed access.

Your ancestors already used this so called password. But in modern times, passwords are now commonly used during a log in process like computers, cable TV, Automated Teller Machine (ATM), etc. A password on modern time uses a partner which is the username. And because of today’s modern technology, passwords should be safe and should ever expose. Here are the following tips to secure your password and to know how to make your newly made password, hack-free.

Step 1: Don’t use Familiar password
Some of us use a password that comes from their birthday or anniversary or even the combination of the names of their lover. Do not use this unless you are ready to face an account of zero.

Step 2: Use All the Characters
Do not limit yourself on the letters of your keyboard. There are so many characters that can be found on the keyboard. Use the numbers, or punctuation marks on the password that you wanted to use.

Step 3: The longer the better
Use a password that is at least eight characters. The longer the password, the more secure account. It doesn’t mean that you will have 30 random characters on your password. But do not commit on a 5-character password because a nightmare will come to happen. Use password that longer enough and easy to remember. Try to use mnemonics or keep it on your personal notebook.

Step 4: Rotation is Necessary
Don’t be relaxed on what you had created. Make a time table on when will you use that password for a long period of time. Although you had created the ideal ‘unguessable’ password, there’s a chance that it will still be gleaned by using keylogging programs or social engineering. So, the best way to combat this is to keep your password changing either daily, weekly or monthly.
